So, I just thought I'd share this... WHY do I always feel like the lifeguards at the Y are judging me... Maybe it's all in my head. Speaking of in my head, did you know that exercise can help reduce stress, worry, anxiety, depression, and a whole slew of other mental health problems? This website has some really great information about the link between mental health and fitness.

Apparently exercise can also improve your self-esteem. Who knew?

Week 6-ish Update
Just got back into the swing of things a few days ago. Surprisingly I'm not astronomically out of shape after not a few weeks off... So now I will write about different strokes.
Breaststroke: performed face down in the water without rotating the torso. The arms stay in the water and move synchronously, while the legs perform a whipkick. It is possible to keep the head elevated out of the water throughout the stroke, although the head usually dips in and out.

Backstroke: Both arms move synchronized (They begin out like an airplane, then go beside the body like a soldier then they run up your sides and back out to an airplane position) with whip kick (breaststroke kick).

This is the turnover I'm hoping to learn:

Week 3 Update
So last week I only ended up swimming 3 times, and I never ran because I was sick. I won't likely swim very much this week either because I'm still sick and, you know, Christmas. Happy Holidays, everyone!

AP Psych Personality Test
Today I took a personality quiz. Here are my top 5 character strengths.

I never really thought of being interested in the world as a strength. Like, I've always been curious, and have always loved to learn. I guess I'm just now realizing that being curious will make me a smarter and more well-rounded individual, and therefor more valuable to work and other people.
| Your Top Strength |
Curiosity and interest in the world
You are curious about everything. You are always asking questions, and you find all subjects and topics fascinating. You like exploration and discovery. |
| Your Second Strength |
Appreciation of beauty and excellence
You notice and appreciate beauty, excellence, and/or skilled performance in all domains of life, from nature to art to mathematics to science to everyday experience. |
| Your Third Strength |
Capacity to love and be loved
You value close relations with others, in particular those in which sharing and caring are reciprocated. The people to whom you feel most close are the same people who feel most close to you. |
| Your Fourth Strength |
Kindness and generosity
You are kind and generous to others, and you are never too busy to do a favor. You enjoy doing good deeds for others, even if you do not know them well. |
| Your Fifth Strength |
Gratitude
You are aware of the good things that happen to you, and you never take them for granted. Your friends and family members know that you are a grateful person because you always take the time to express your thanks. |

Week 2 Update
I did 4 workouts at the YMCA last week, as well as one today. Last week I swam 10x50 workouts, and will be doing 12x50s all week this week. Not gonna lie, last week was tough. I haven't swam since I was about 10... Starting this week I will be doing 4 pool workouts and 1 running workout per week (the runner in me misses cross country season, what can I say?). I will try to put up some videos or pictures of the strokes I have been working on. This week I'm trying to be less bad at the front crawl and also work on turnovers so I don't have to stop and turn around when I get to the end of the pool. Maybe I'll eventually work up the courage to see if I can remember how to dive... Wish me luck!

Week 1
My name is Maya. For the next 10-11 weeks I will be doing a swim training regimen meant for training triathletes. The following is a link to the workouts I will be using (modified for time constraints).

My goal is to be better at swimming by the end of my training. Not to burst anyone's bubble, but I probably won't do a triathlon... Sorry.
